Our Annual Hawaiian Sizzler Dance was enjoyed by all who attended. Most people dressed for the evening, wearing brightly colored outfits, mumus, and one "Car Wash Dress". Hostess Alice Clapp played a variety of Hawaiian, and ballroom tunes. A number of people donated items to our refreshment table, including Pepperidge Farm Cookies and the sweetest grapes of the season. Several items were donated to the Gibson Center Food Bank.

The Gibson Center traveled to Ottawa Canada, where in addition to touring the city and Parliament Hill, we saw the Royal Canadian Mounted Police practicing for their Musical Ride; toured the tulip gardens which were given as a gift from the Dutch Royal Family, visited the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and a few got lucky at the Casino …got a quarter? Yep. We then traveled to Gananoque where we enjoyed a cruise through the beautiful 1000 Islands Region of the St. Lawrence River.

The Gibson Members came out in droves to the Saint Patrick’s celebrations. Everyone wore green. The Kitchen prepared a delicious dinner of Corned Beef and Cabbage, carrots, potatoes, spinach salad, rye bread, and Bailey's Irish Cream Mousse. We had music at every meal, Sally Swenson and her friends had an Irish sing along, including a "Saw" solo. Ed Walters played the accordion and Jack Rice sang on Tuesday. We showed "The Luck of the Irish" on Monday, and Alice Clapp was the ballroom dance hostess on Tuesday.

Thanks to the Robert & Dorothy Goldberg Charitable Foundation, the Tuck Museum in Concord New Hampshire had a wonderful display of works from the School of White Mountain Painters. After lunch at the Capital City Grill, we spent a few hours basking in the beauty of the White Mountains. The Cherry on the Sundae was driving home and seeing the beauty of the White Mountains all around us. We are so lucky to live in a place most people only dream about.

The future certainly looks bright, if the dance is anything to go by. The entire school got together to make the 40's, 50's, & 60's Dance a success. The art class drew headshots of famous people, the band learned music from the Big Band Era, the Home Ec classes made delicious snacks and drinks, the Junior High Students studied the times, learned to dance a few steps, and were taught how to interact with people from a different generation. We really had a great time!

Friendly's Restaurant held a fundraiser for the Gibson Center. They offered us a portion of the evenings profits. They made it a real party with balloons, and several smiling waitresses. The Gibson people added to the festive spirit, by ordering the yummy food and ice cream. Everyone had a good time, and people are asking to do it again.

On June 12th & 13th, we loaded the van and headed across the Kancamagus Highway, through Franconia Notch, to Polly's Pancake House. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch, then went to the Maple Sugar Sampler where we could walk on paths through a lupine field, shop in the store, or sit to enjoy the sun. Afterwards we drove home through Crawford Notch, stopping for ice cream at Trails End.

A group of Gibson Members met early on June 27th to travel to Newport Rhode Island. While the day was hot and sticky here in the valley, the air conditioned bus and ocean breezes kept us comfortable. While in Newport we had a chance to wander around the port for a lunch break, next we toured two mansions, the Breakers and Marble House. We then enjoyed a bus ride to Ware, where we boarded a boat for a 4 hour dinner cruise. The food was fantastic, the boat ride was plesant, and floating around the harbor with all the tall ships was unforgetable. The captian told us about each boat as we sailed past. On the bus ride home we enjoyed a movie.

Our annual Silver Lake Landing Picnic was held on a picture perfect day. The weather was great, temperature, the light breeze off the lake, the warm sun, and the shade of the trees. The food was tasty as always, and the entertainment was lively. We always enjoy seeing children, and there were a few at our picnic. Afterwards Henry took some for a boat ride on the lake.
