The Gibson Center traveled to Old Orchard Beach, to the Salvation Army, OOB Pavilion, and listened to the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The Orchestra performed under the direction of Larry O'Brien, trombonist. The Orchestra played several favorite Glenn Miller tunes, as well as some more contemporary melodies arranged in the Big Band style. People, including several members of Alice Clapp's Ballroom Dance Class, danced in the aisles and under the stars around the Pavilion.

We had a Halloween Parade at the Congregate Meal Site. Several people dressed up in costumes and themed sweaters. Everyone had a good time. Chef Rick prepared a special meal for us, Baked Black Oak Ham with Rasin Sauce, Creole Cabbage Saute, Gratin Potatoes, French Bread, and Pumpkin Marscapone. The Kitchen Staff even decorated the serving area with some creepy crawlies.

In spite of the snowy weather, the Gibson Center celebrated the Mardi Gras in New Orleans style. Chef Rick prepared a delicious Seafood & Sausage Jambalaya, along with Broccoli with Hollandaise Sauce, Tomato Provencale, French Bread, and Bread Pudding Acadian. There was jazz music in the background. People dressed in the Mardi Gras Colors, Gold, Purple, and Green, wore beads and a few even wore costumes!

The future certainly looks bright, if the dance is anything to go by. The entire school got together to make the 40's, 50's, & 60's Dance a success. The art class drew headshots of famous people, the band learned music from the Big Band Era, the Home Ec classes made delicious snacks and drinks, the Junior High Students studied the times, learned to dance a few steps, and were taught how to interact with people from a different generation. We really had a great time!

On June 12th & 13th, we loaded the van and headed across the Kancamagus Highway, through Franconia Notch, to Polly's Pancake House. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch, then went to the Maple Sugar Sampler where we could walk on paths through a lupine field, shop in the store, or sit to enjoy the sun. Afterwards we drove home through Crawford Notch, stopping for ice cream at Trails End.

A group of Gibson Members met early on June 27th to travel to Newport Rhode Island. While the day was hot and sticky here in the valley, the air conditioned bus and ocean breezes kept us comfortable. While in Newport we had a chance to wander around the port for a lunch break, next we toured two mansions, the Breakers and Marble House. We then enjoyed a bus ride to Ware, where we boarded a boat for a 4 hour dinner cruise. The food was fantastic, the boat ride was plesant, and floating around the harbor with all the tall ships was unforgetable. The captian told us about each boat as we sailed past. On the bus ride home we enjoyed a movie.

Our annual Silver Lake Landing Picnic was held on a picture perfect day. The weather was great, temperature, the light breeze off the lake, the warm sun, and the shade of the trees. The food was tasty as always, and the entertainment was lively. We always enjoy seeing children, and there were a few at our picnic. Afterwards Henry took some for a boat ride on the lake.

Friday afternoon we headed to Merridith, to the Chi-Lin Gallery. The day started questionably but the weather cleared and we had a delightful time at the Gallery and in the Tea Garden. There were three special displays at the Gallery, as well as fine silks, unique teapots, and other asian art.
The gallery is surrounded by a Japanese Garden, full of places to stop and meditate. The plants, stones, carvings, and water features created a peaceful setting in the middle of the town.
The highlight of the trip was tea on the treetop deck. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
