GREETINGS FROM GIBSON CENTER
March is a turning point for me. This month we celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the first Day of Spring, the clocks turning forward an hour and we are on the cusp of Easter.
We also will be celebrating a special person this year. We are pleased to announce an honorary lunch on March 22nd for Fran Lampidis. Through the generosity of Reverend Raymond Stineford and his wife Dr. Helen Prince, we are able to purchase a new podium and sound system for the dining room in Fran’s honor. We also will be accepting gifts in Fran’s name with donations to be targeted to our Nutrition program. Fran will be joining us at 11:30 on the 22nd so please come by and greet her. Mark is cooking up Fran’s favorite Chicken Bangalore.
I am pleased to be able to report an uptick in transportation rides this month. Sharon and Jill are helping with vaccine appointments as well as their usual medical appointments and social activities. We are available to offer rides with a day’s notice by calling the Gibson Center to schedule with us.
I got my official tour of Silver Lake Landing this month. Ken was pleased to show me the well, water and sprinkler systems, the "Above Ground" oil tanks, the boilers, the new laundry equipment, storage areas and other things lurking in the basement. What extraordinary work Ken has done. We are pleased to be able to offer low-income senior housing in our 19 units. We know affordable senior housing (affordable housing for anyone!) is a major issue in our region and state. While HomeShare has had to stop doing active matching of homeowners with renters, we hope anyone who has extra bedroom space will strongly consider offering it to those who need housing. Our Valley is stronger for having a balanced and energetic work force with intergenerational relationships in our neighborhoods. If anyone wants to ask questions about HomeShare, please call me at the Gibson Center – 603-356-3231
Please stay safe, wear a mask and continue diligence until we are all vaccinated.
My best to you all.
Marianne Jackson, MD
Executive Director

COVID-19 UPDATE
In partnership with Carroll County Coalition for Public Health, the Gibson Center is hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for those eligible in Phase 1B who are Meals on Wheels recipients and drivers, program participants, and employees. We are anticipating over 110 doses to be given.
We are also offering to coordinate transportation for those homebound individuals who need assistance getting to the North Conway Community Center where the clinic will be held on March 2 and repeated 4 weeks later. It is the Moderna vaccine that is being given.
This is one of the ways the Gibson Center staff is working to help keep our friends and families safe. It is our way of helping us return to "normal" with our activities and programs. Until then, we continue to be vigilant with masks and distancing as the threat remains.
